About Dan Covin

Covan Artisan Woodworks

Dan Cohen is new to the art scene and began creating custom and unique wood wall art and tables with hand carved/router epoxy resin designs in late 2021. Dan is also a South Carolina residential builder who has constructed some very impressive homes in the low country with keen attention to detail and design…he has also been described as the “artist” who builds!

The wood art concept started when a large Southern Hickory tree in Dan’s backyard was compromised during a tropical storm and the remainder of the tree had to be cut down. Instead of discarding the tree or using it for firewood, the wood from this beautiful tree was the inspiration for Dan to “embark” on a new artistic venture. He salvaged this tree and captured the beauty of the natural world creating live edge tables and benches with an epoxy river table design. This was a new form of designing and creating for Dan which was very fun and rewarding! Next came the inspiration of designing specialty pieces of wood that are hand carved/router in the forms of turtles, crabs, sharks, mermaids and much more. Each design can be used for tables or wall art as a unique one-of-a-kind piece of art on an especially distinctive piece of wood.

As friends started inquiring if they could purchase and/or commission tables and artwork this fun concept was reimagined into an exciting artisan venture. Dan has worked with various wood species including Southern Hickory, cherry, red oak, black oak, Guanacaste from Costa Rica, camphor burl from Asia, rosewood from Brazil, pecan, southern magnolia and others. An extremely rare “hundreds of years old” southern magnolia tree was damaged, harvested and purchased by Dan who transformed it into an extraordinary one-of-a-kind dining table. Each type of word is defined by specific characteristics, various finishes and artistic interpretations which are then hand carved/routered with hand poured epoxy resin being added to many pieces.
